Rubber gaskets are a crucial and indispensable component in plate heat exchangers. It is usually made of elastic rubber-like materials and is embedded in the gasket grooves of the heat exchange plate. Each heat exchange plate is surrounded by a gasket groove for accommodating gaskets. Gaskets, depending on their design, can be adhesive type, snap-on type or hanging type, and are precisely installed in the groove. The material of gaskets is not singular but is selected based on the nature, temperature and chemical characteristics of the heat exchange medium. The layout of the gasket has been carefully designed. Usually, an alternating arrangement is adopted, so that the channels between adjacent plates lead to different media respectively (for example, one side is the hot medium and the other side is the cold medium).

Selecting the appropriate gasket material and ensuring correct installation and maintenance are crucial for guaranteeing the performance, lifespan and reliability of plate heat exchangers.
